Our Process
A Process You Can Trust
From field to package, purity comes first.
We protect the integrity of our oats through a strict process designed to reduce the risk of gluten contamination at every stage.
Field Selection
We work with fields that meet strict crop rotation requirements and avoid nearby gluten containing crops.
Crop Inspection
Our oat fields are inspected multiple times before harvest by the GF Harvest team and an independent seed certifier to help identify and prevent potential cross-contact with wheat, barley,or rye.
Equipment Inspection
Planting and harvest equipment, including trucks and combines, is carefully inspected to help prevent unwanted crop material from entering our oats.
Careful Harvesting
Our oats are harvested with close attention to maintaining their integrity and protecting them from unwanted crop material.
Milling & Testing
Once harvested, the oats are milled and tested with careful attention to purity, quality, and traceability.
Packaging
The finished oats are packaged with the same care used throughout the process, helping protect their quality all the way to your pantry.
GF Harvest Purity Protocol
Our Purity Protocol starts at the farm, where we take steps to protect the integrity of our oats from the very beginning. We require that non gluten-containing crops have been grown in the same field for at least three years prior to our oats being planted. We also require physical separation between our gluten-free oat fields and fields growing gluten-containing crops such as wheat, barley, or rye.
But even with these safeguards, nature can introduce unexpected challenges. Wind, rain, wildlife, and birds can all bring unwanted plants into a field.
So What’s the Next Line of Defense?
We Are.
Our team physically inspects our fields multiple times throughout the growing season, looking for volunteer wheat, barley, rye, or other unwanted crops and weeds.
We also inspect the equipment used throughout planting and harvest—from planting equipment to trucks and combines—to help prevent unwanted crop material from entering our oat crop.
There is no substitute for experienced people walking the fields and inspecting the equipment, knowing what they are looking for, and taking the time to protect the integrity of our oat field.
